About the exhibition
In his sculptures and media works Philipp Messner (*1975) deals with the experiences and effects of the virtual. How do computer-generated appearances influence our perception of "real" forms, objects and spaces? The installation "Constantly Shifting", presented for the first time, consists of a circular surface set flush into the wall. Although small in size, its luminosity and movement immediately catch the eye. We know the wheel in the spectral colors as a digital waiting cursor.
It is in permanent motion and yet symbolizes standstill. It appears whenever a computer is involved in computing processes. Rebuilt and enlarged, the artist transfers the digital icon directly into real space. It appears as if planted in the wall, making the architecture appear as something virtual and dissolving the difference between object and symbol.
