Special opening hours

On public holidays, the Pinakothek der Moderne is generally open at the usual opening hours according to the respective day of the week. Exceptions are indicated separately.

Regular opening on public holidays:

  • Easter (Good Friday to Easter Monday)
  • Ascension Day (26.05.22 | open until 6 pm)
  • Whitsun (Whit Sunday to Whit Monday)
  • Boxing Day (26.12.22)
  • New Year's Day (01.01.23)
  • Epiphany (06.01.23)

Regular closure on the following public holidays:

  • Shrove Tuesday (01.03.22)
  • Labour Day (01.05.22)
  • Christmas Eve (24.12.22)
  • Christmas Day (25.12.22)
  • New Year's Eve (31.12.22)

Special opening hours on the following public holidays 2022:

  • Corpus Christi (16.06.22): open until 6 pm
  • Assumption Day (15.08.22): closed
  • German Unity Day (03.10.22): closed
  • All Saints' Day (01.11.22): open

Reductions

Reduced admission applies (upon presentation of the reduction entitlement) for the following persons:

  • Seniors over 65
  • Students and course participants of the Goethe-Institut
  • Severely disabled persons (the registered accompanying person has free admission)
  • Travel and visitor groups with at least 15 participants
  • Members of the Verband Deutscher Kunsthistoriker e.V. (Association of German ArtHistorians), the Berufsverband Bildender Künstler (Professional Association of Visual Artists) and the Vereinigung Bildender Künstlerinnen und Künstler in ver.di Bayern (Association of Visual Artists in ver.di Bavaria)
  • Volunteers of the Voluntary Social Year and participants of the Voluntary Ecological Year
  • Volunteers doing military service and volunteers under the Federal Volunteer Service Act (Bundesfreiwilligendienstgesetz)
  • District and city preservationists

Free entry applies (upon presentation of the authorization) for the following persons:

  • Refugees from Ukraine. The Ukrainian identity documents counts as proof.
  • Children and young people up to 18 years of age
  • All students over 18 years of age (except students of evening secondary schools, evening grammar schools, colleges and telecolleges as well as language students).
  • Students of art, art history, art studies and art education. In the Pinakothek der Moderne the fields of architecture, design and graphic arts are also admitted free of charge. Proof of enrolment is a valid student card from the university or college
  • Teachers, youth group leaders, guides and supervisors on visits to the museum with the groups of children, young people and schoolchildren they supervise and in preparation for the visit to the museum. Please present a current letter from the school or institution at the ticket office.
  • University lecturers in the context of courses with the students they supervise
    students in the fields of art, art history and art sciences, as well as in preparation for a visit to the museum.
  • Registered companions of severely disabled visitors
  • Journalists with a current press card
  • Holders of the Bavarian Volunteer Card
  • Tour guides or guides from other companies with a professional card (maximum of one person per 25 paying participants) as well as drivers from the travel companies with direct participation in the museum visit
  • Members of the International Council of Museums (ICOM)
  • Members of the Friends and Support Associations of the funded museums and collections and the "Friends of the MPZ e.V." association
  • Staff of the Museum Education Centre (MPZ)
  • Holders of the Bavarian Order of Merit, the Bavarian Rescue Medal with Ribbon, the Bavarian Maximilian Order for Science and Art
  • Mandate holders and diplomats
