About the Exhibition
Klarenbeek & Dros’ objects cannot be separated from their
innovative materials. They work on designing products based on mycelium, incorporating bio -design and bio -technological processes in their production. Their aim is to implement eco-technology in everyday life by realising designs for interiors and the built environment.
The Studio Klarenbeek & Dros is the first in the world to print living mycelium, the root system of fungi in 3D. Combining the thread -like network of fungi with local raw materials enables them to create products with a negative carbon footprint. Their projects include furniture, glass and textile objects, wall structures and works for public spaces.
Their cooperation with the fashion label Iris van Herpen,
shown at the Paris Fashion Week in 2022, was spectacular. They designed the ‘Vegan Dress’ from 3D -printed material to make a statement for sustainable fashion.
Maartje Dros and Eric Klarenbeek are a design duo who
combine social design with technology. They set standards in design by restructuring complex processes, taking into
account their potential impact on nature and the
environment in relation to their political, economic and social context.
