DESIGNING FOR THE OLYMPICS

About the exhibition

As the largest sporting events in the world, the Olympic Games have always been the engine and target of innovation. It is not only athletes who compete with each other at the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Manufacturers of sports equipment try to outdo each other in equipping the athletes, just as the host countries try to outdo each other in the visual and architectural design of the Games. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972, Die Neue Sammlung focuses on these manifold interconnections between design and the Olympics. Arranged in three chapters, the exhibition uses selected objects and graphics to show the wealth of ideas, innovative spirit and technical progress that link design to the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the values and goals that find their way into design for the Olympic Games.
