ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
The Pinakothek der Moderne is dedicating a single-room presentation to the German artist Astrid Klein (born 1951) to celebrate the generous acquisition of five photographic works financed by the Michael & Eleonore Stoffel Stiftung. It is the artist's first institutional show in a major Munich museum since 1989.
Astrid Klein is one of the most striking voices in German contemporary art. Her work interrogates political, historical, and in particular emotional aspects of our performancedriven
Western society.
The newly acquired works shed light on relationship clichés handed down from one generation to the next and widespread in film and advertising. The new accessions thus form a bridge to the two works already in the museum's collection. The display of the now-expanded collection reflects the artist s examination of the mechanics of power and appropriation that operate on both the individual and collective level.
