Design for All The first collection presentation on inclusive design

About the exhibition

In keeping with its pioneering role as an inclusive design museum, Die Neue Sammlung is putting together the first collection presentation on the theme of ‘Design for All’. The aspiration to design everyday objects for everyone has always shaped many trends in design. However, this theme has not yet been addressed in the permanent exhibitions of international design museums, but has at most been included in temporary special exhibitions.

The exhibition aims to counteract the view we have observed that inclusive design is still considered a niche area. Both in industry and among the general public, it generally enjoys a lower reputation than other areas of design. However, this contrasts with current creative processes, which rely on diverse working groups, as well as major innovations that have become commonplace and were achieved through inclusive approaches!

The exhibited objects of inclusive and exclusive design not only provide insights into ‘other’ living environments, but also make it clear that their characteristics can be meaningful and attractive to all people, despite or precisely because of their focus on very specific user groups. The exhibition aims to make inclusive design visible and tangible as a fundamental design principle and as a driving force for innovation.
